MTV Tr3s en English, Spanish y Spanglish
April 5, 2006
I’d wager that a mobile deal is not far behind.
Via VivirLatino, from Reuters:
TV Tres…will showcase pop, urban and rock artists as well as lifestyle series, customized music franchises and news documentaries that spotlight U.S. Latinos as well as their culture, music and artists…MTV executives said the launch of the channel will signify the “re-energizing” of Spanish network MTV Espanol, which is “evolving” to form MTV Tres. MTV Espanol general manager Lucia Ballas-Traynor will take on the same title at MTV Tres.
Ballas-Traynor said the new channel will feature programming in English, Spanish and a combination of both languages, depending on the show or subject.
“What we’ve seen is that the Hispanic youth audience … is very comfortable with both languages,” she said.

I hate MTV TR3S, I used to be a big Fan of MTV Espanol, when they played artists like those Evelyn named, and even more. It WAS more diverse. It was Pure videos, no stupid reality shows, and best of all, no comercials (until the end, when it came crashing down) that was the good MTV for latinos. Why is it these guys think all we listen to is freaking regetton and hip-hop!. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy some of that stuff, but latin music is not just that. I say Bring back MTV Espanol, hell, MTV has MTV and MTV2, why not have 2 channels for latinos, who happen to be huge consumers!!!
RIP MTV Espanol…y que se muera MTV Tr3s

One last ting, have you guys notice the huge difference in image and sound quality between MTV espanol and MTV Tr3s?! Its really a joke, MTV Espanol Used to have great sound and image quality, Tr3s not only has a more blurred, poor image, but the sound is worst than Telehit’s and even HTV’S, whose MTV Espanol beat by soo much (for those who have dish network and whatch these channels know what I mean)
Pero no comparemos la calidad de sonido e imiagen de MTV o MTV2, porque no hay comparasion!!! Its imposible how they screwd us over with this…

In my opinion, the idea of MTV tr3s is awful.
My reasons:
1) MTV has gone awful (and i’ve seen MTV here in america, and in Mexico back when i lived there for 12 years), it used to be about the videos, but now, it has gone infested by all kinds of over the top reality shows and telling kids what should be cool with all kinds of marketing strategies and consumerism, leaving actual video airtime limited to the most papular (regetton anyone). What happened to rock? Folk? all the other styles? It just lost my interest, and i don’t se how MTV tr3s will change that fact.
2) Even though every now and then I slip into the occasional spanglish word, I’m not sure spanglish should be supported in Print or audiovisual media. I believe this will only further the loss of the original languages English Spanish and encourage illiteracy in either language.
3) Who needs it when we have Youtube? (My new source for alt rock videos Spanish and English).
Just my opinion.

What happened to the wonderful mix of spanish videos that were
playing a hugh part in changing the direction of the USA in a very
positive way. Now all I see are the usual hip hop booty call videos
or the latest US hits and none of the variety. Sucker Free Latino is
an ok show but is that all the music we get to enjoy? Who wants all the reality shows. MTV and Vh1 have sold out big time when it comes to supporting the Latino audience past the age of 20. Oh for the days of Ricardo Arjona and Paulina! Bring it back!

I can tell that this is not the first time at all that you write about this topic. Why have you decided to touch it again?
