5 Billion Reasons for GoodMail?

April 23, 2006

Walter at InforWorld previews an upcoming study by Net security firm IranPort that purports that "that bounced e-mail messages costs $5 billion annually in IT help desk associated costs, and make up 11 percent of "hostile mail" on the Internet."

I'm not saying pay-to-play initiatives are the answer, but those who object to such schemes need to address the root causes of spam, viruses and the lack of Internet security.

TechDirt points to a 2003 post saying that IronPort should know of what it speaks, pointing to a NYT article that says

that IronPort is known for selling the best systems for bulk commercial emailing, though, they swear the machines are only being used for legitimate marketing.
