The Washington Post reports that Virginia high school students were on the march today– including some from J.E.B. Stuart High School– GO RAIDERS! (I wonder what flag they carry?) Sounds as though the police and school administrators handled it pretty well. (There is also a Friday march planned in Alexandria, according to this MySpace post.)
"They're voicing their displeasure with the immigration legislation proposed in Congress," [Police spokesman Matt]Martin said. He said some students held signs that said "No" to proposed legislation passed recently by the House of Representatives.
"They were very animated, very focused on the issue," Martin said of the young protesters. "They were well-behaved and generally complied with what we asked them to do."
[School Administrator] Smith said that Arlington County dispatched nine school buses to pick up the students at the request of Arlington police to ensure safety.
